Monaco in Shock: Package Explosion in Front of Residence of a Ukrainian Entrepreneur – Three Injured

Monaco – 30.06.2026: In the night into Monday an explosive device detonated in front of the entrance to a residence at the border with France. According to authorities, three people were injured, two of them seriously. Among the injured is, according to consistent media reports, a Ukrainian entrepreneur living in Monaco. An official confirmation of the identity by the public prosecutor’s office was still pending on Monday midday.

Investigative authorities in Monaco have opened proceedings for attempted murder. A terrorist motive is not being pursued at present. According to the prosecutor’s office, the alleged perpetrator left the site on foot immediately after the explosion and used a small path toward French territory. Video footage shows a fleeing person; these images are being analyzed. Whether the residents of the house were specifically targeted is the subject of the investigations.

Special units and forensic technicians from Monaco secured evidence during the night. France is supporting the manhunt and is providing additional forces and equipment. On Monday the search focused on the neighboring communities above Monaco; cameras in the border area are also being systematically reviewed. Authorities asked residents to report observations but refrained from providing detailed information about the sequence of events so as not to jeopardize the success of the investigation.

Several media outlets named Ukrainian entrepreneur Vadim Ermolaev as the alleged target. Reports of past business disputes and sanctions are circulating, but for investigators these are not yet evidence of a motive. Officially, authorities say they are working through several hypotheses – from a personal feud to commercial disputes to a targeted intimidation operation. No concrete results were available on Monday.

Forensic teams are examining the remains of the explosive device. Reports that fragments or metal parts may have been in the package are being examined. The analysis is intended to provide information on the design, triggering mechanism and possible procurement routes. At the same time, the police are trying to trace the path of the package – from mailing to placement in front of the door.

The incident has visible consequences in the principality that is considered safe: the police increased their presence in the neighborhood and access to critical points was temporarily controlled. Sources within the city administration said that security measures had been increased as a precaution. There is currently no reason for the public to panic, but the authorities nevertheless urge vigilance and advise not to touch suspicious items and to report them immediately.
