France activates the ORSEC plan for extreme heat for the first time

France responds to a new dimension of summer extreme weather events. In view of a persistent heatwave, the government on July 10 activated for the first time the newly created ORSEC emergency plan "Chaleurs extrêmes". The instrument is intended to better prepare civil protection for exceptional heat periods and to specifically protect vulnerable population groups.
