Grenoble: Coordinated drug trafficking raids lead to numerous arrests

Grenoble – 11.07.2026: In Grenoble and several neighboring municipalities in the Isère metropolitan area, police carried out a series of coordinated measures against drug trafficking in early July. According to consistent media reports, the operations targeted suspected distribution hubs, so-called stash apartments, and meeting points along supply chains. The raids resulted in numerous arrests and the seizure of narcotics and cash. The prefecture and investigative authorities described the action as a coordinated response to ongoing violence involving rival groups of dealers.

In addition to local police units, special intervention forces also took part in the operations. Media outlets cited the intervention unit RAID as well as riot police units, which were deployed at specific points to secure searches and arrest suspected organizers. The measures focused on neighborhoods that have repeatedly drawn attention since the end of 2025 because of gunfire, intimidation, and clashes between competing networks. Investigators say targeted strikes against the logistics hubs of low-level dealers and the financial resources of the structures are intended to limit the networks’ ability to operate.

Several properties were searched simultaneously. According to press reports, officers seized various drugs, including cannabis products and cocaine, as well as equipment for portioning and selling them. In some cases, five-figure sums of cash were confiscated. Those arrested are currently being questioned; the Grenoble public prosecutor’s office will decide on detention hearings and possible charges. At the same time, specialized units are examining whether the suspects can also be accused of offenses such as commercial money laundering or participation in a criminal organization in addition to drug trafficking.

For months, authorities have pointed to an increase in territorial conflicts in and around Grenoble. Local prevention agencies also report pressure on residents, for example through nighttime traffic to and from so-called stash apartments and the visible presence of runners in sensitive streets. With the current measures, police and judicial authorities aim to disrupt supply chains and ease the burden on residents. Observers expect further investigations could lead to follow-up measures, such as asset seizures or additional exclusion orders at identified distribution hubs.

The prefecture announced that it would initially maintain a high level of presence in affected neighborhoods. Alongside repressive measures, municipalities point to social and youth policy programs intended to create alternative prospects and make it harder to recruit young runners. How sustainable the successes are will become clear from developments at open drug-selling points in the coming weeks. Proceedings are ongoing; citing the status of the investigation, authorities have so far not provided detailed information about the individuals involved.
