Forest fire near Fontainebleau paralyses the A6 and southbound TGV traffic

Fontainebleau – 12 July 2026: A rapidly spreading vegetation fire near the A6 motorway severely disrupted traffic south of Paris on Sunday evening. In the wooded area of Fontainebleau, in Seine-et-Marne, firefighters responded to a blaze considered particularly challenging because of its rapid spread. Emergency crews focused on containing the flames and protecting people and transport routes.

The A6, one of the country’s most important north-south routes, was immediately affected by the consequences. Restrictions and delays occurred near the fire. Technical inspection of the infrastructure began only after firefighters had completed their immediate operation in the danger zone.

According to initial information, two firefighting aircraft were requested from southern France to support the firefighters. On Sunday evening, no reliable information was available on injuries or damage to homes. In addition, no firm information on the cause of the fire was initially provided. Determining the cause is the responsibility of the competent authorities, as soon as the situation allows.

Franceinfo also reported further fire alerts, including in Loiret, Drôme and Côte-d’Or. It was initially not known whether there was a connection between these fires. The reports came during a pronounced heatwave, during which prefectures in several regions warned of an increased fire risk and strengthened protection measures for vegetation and emergency crews.
