Tiger helicopters conduct flight training over Paris ahead of Bastille Day

Paris – July 12, 2026: Preparations for the July 14 French National Day military parade are entering a decisive phase. A formation of Army Aviation helicopters is scheduled to fly over the Champs-Élysées, including Tiger attack helicopters. These aircraft carry out reconnaissance, armed support, and the protection of friendly forces in demanding operational environments.

According to the schedule published by the Ministry of Defence, the reconnaissance and attack formation will consist of three Tiger helicopters, three Gazelle helicopters, and three Fennec helicopters. A total of 31 aircraft from the military, National Gendarmerie, civil protection, customs, and the DGA procurement agency are expected to take part in the helicopter flypast. The program may change until the day of the event.

The Tiger helicopters belong to the 1st Combat Helicopter Regiment stationed in Phalsbourg, which will be particularly highlighted in the parade. The unit can deploy a complete Army Aviation force and carries out missions ranging from reconnaissance and fire support to transport, medical evacuation, and assistance with the evacuation of French nationals. During the flypast over Paris, the Tigers are expected to appear alongside the lighter Gazelles.

The current preparations also point to operations outside France. At the end of March 2026, Army Chief of Staff Pierre Schill announced the deployment of four Tiger helicopters to the Gulf region. These aircraft were intended to help defend French interests and allies against increasing drone attacks. Media later reported that the aircraft had shot down Iranian drones.

The operation in the Middle East should not be equated with the planned flypast over Paris. The Ministry of Defence stated that the helicopter formation for the July 14, 2026 parade would include three Tigers. The number of four refers to the Gulf region deployment announced in March. This clearly illustrates the difference between operationally deployed units and formations planned for ceremonial purposes.

Security measures for the Paris celebrations are also being reinforced in parallel. The Air Defence and Air Operations Command is operating a special alert system to protect the airspace over the capital. According to the Ministry of Defence, more than 6,000 military personnel and around 130 aircraft will take part in the parade, while 350 Air Force personnel will be specially deployed in the Paris region.

The helicopter flypast is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The planned participation of the Tigers in the parade links a demonstration of Army Aviation capabilities with experience gained in ongoing overseas operations. For spectators, the flypast remains part of the extensive military and civilian security system established around the Champs-Élysées.
