Didier Sicard Warns of Risks to Vulnerable People After Passage of Assisted Dying Reform

Paris - 16 July 2026: Following the final passage of the law establishing a right to assistance in dying, physician Didier Sicard warned of possible consequences for particularly vulnerable people. The honorary president of the National Consultative Ethics Committee said the new legal framework could endanger individuals whose decisions are influenced by illness, dependency or family burdens.Sicard particularly regretted that, in his view, the law does not sufficiently prevent an individual entitlement from affecting those around the person concerned.
