Wildfire at Gros Bessillon in the Var burns around 2,500 hectares

Pontevès - 22 July 2026: According to the prefecture, the forest and vegetation fire at Gros Bessillon in the Var department had affected around 2,500 hectares by Wednesday morning. The fire remains active in an area between Pontevès, Cotignac, Correns and Montfort-sur-Argens. The operational command continues to rely on a large-scale deployment on the ground and from the air to prevent further spread.About 1,000 firefighters from the Var and other parts of France are involved in firefighting operations.
