TotalEnergies caps gasoline price again at 1.99 euros per liter

Paris – 22 July 2026: TotalEnergies is reintroducing a maximum price of 1.99 euros per liter of gasoline at all of its own service stations in metropolitan France. The energy group justifies the measure with the renewed escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and the resulting increase in international prices for petroleum products. At the same time, the price of diesel will be capped at a maximum of 2.25 euros per liter.

According to the company, the regulation follows on from the price caps that had applied throughout the French service station network until the end of June 2026. It applies to continental France. The aim is to protect motorists from the immediate pass-through of new market movements to prices at the pump. The group has not specified a time limit for the measure, which has now been expanded again.

As recently as 30 June, TotalEnergies had significantly narrowed its summer program. At that time, the 1.99-euro cap for gasoline and diesel for July and August was generally limited to 1,200 service stations in rural areas. In addition, it was planned for motorway service stations only on designated weekends with particularly heavy holiday travel.

With the announcement of 22 July, a uniform maximum price for gasoline now once again applies across the company’s entire network in France. For diesel, however, the general cap remains higher than for gasoline. At motorway service stations, TotalEnergies intends to offer diesel for no more than 1.99 euros per liter during the remaining major travel weekends scheduled for 1 and 2 August, 15 and 16 August, and 29 and 30 August.

The different treatment is explained by the structure of the two programs. According to the company, the general return of the price cap responds to rising prices for oil products on international markets. The additional motorway campaign, by contrast, is explicitly intended to provide relief for summer holiday traffic. It therefore applies only on the specified dates and only at service stations on motorways.

According to the company, TotalEnergies electricity and gas customers can obtain both gasoline and diesel for no more than 1.99 euros per liter throughout 2026 under the Avantage Carburant program. The corresponding discount is reportedly shown on the receipt. Newly concluded private electricity or gas contracts may also qualify for this offer.

The decision illustrates how quickly geopolitical tensions can affect fuel prices in France. For consumers, in addition to the displayed price per liter, it is important whether the relevant station belongs to the TotalEnergies network and which type of fuel is being purchased. The current general cap covers gasoline at 1.99 euros and diesel at 2.25 euros per liter.
