Why forests in southwestern France burn so quickly

Le Porge - 23 July 2026: A large-scale forest fire north of the Bassin d'Arcachon once again highlighted the particular vulnerability of the Gironde on Thursday. According to the AFP news agency, around 2,400 hectares near Le Porge were affected, and more than 20,000 residents and holidaymakers had to leave the area.
