Kyiv – 24 July 2026: A Russian missile strike on a venue in the Kyiv region has claimed the lives of ten people, according to Ukrainian authorities. Around 100 others were injured, some of them seriously. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the death toll of ten in the evening. He spoke of a Russian attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region. Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine’s leadership has accused Moscow of using missiles and drones against targets far behind the front line as well. Russia initially did not comment in detail on the reports concerning the specific venue.

According to reports by Ukrainian representatives, the defense industry gathering had previously been announced on social media. Whether and to what extent these public notices may have influenced the selection of the target is the subject of the ongoing investigation. Regardless, the suspected attack itself remains at the center of proceedings over a possible violation of the laws and customs of war.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko also announced a second investigation. It concerns possible breaches of duty in the planning and security arrangements for the event that may have led to deaths.
