Climate Action Network calls for greater attention to climate change in political debates before 2027

Paris – 27 May 2026: In light of France’s recent heatwave, the Climate Action Network is calling on the political sphere to give greater prominence to climate issues in debates ahead of 2027. A spokesperson for the network told France Inter that the repeated record-breaking temperatures at the end of May underlined the urgency of placing climate protection measures at the center of the political agenda.

The Climate Action Network is an alliance of 27 national environmental organizations and 10 local associations committed to climate protection and a fair ecological transition. As the French branch of Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe), the network coordinates the activities of NGOs concerned with issues such as energy, transport and agriculture.

In recent years, the Climate Action Network has repeatedly pointed out that climate issues must be given greater emphasis in political discussions. In June 2025, the network criticized political backsliding on environmental issues and emphasized the negative impacts this has on the French public and the economy.

Despite these calls, implementing effective climate protection measures in French politics remains a major challenge. The current heatwave further highlights the urgency of responding more decisively to climate change and adopting corresponding policies.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the Climate Action Network is urging political decision-makers to make climate issues central to their policy plans and to take concrete measures to protect the climate. Only by strengthening political attention and taking decisive action can climate change be effectively addressed and citizens’ long-term quality of life be safeguarded.

Recent events show that climate change is already having a noticeable impact on everyday life. Therefore, it is necessary not to treat climate issues as a marginal topic but as a core challenge on the political agenda for 2027 and beyond.

The Climate Action Network emphasizes that incorporating climate issues into political debate is not only an ecological necessity but also an economic opportunity. By investing in green technologies and sustainable development, new jobs can be created and France’s competitiveness strengthened.

Finally, the network calls on the political sphere to take seriously the challenges posed by current climate change and to take concrete measures to ensure a sustainable and fair future.

Precise language is particularly important on environmental and weather-related issues. Alerts, measurement data and regional differences must remain easy to understand and avoid unnecessary exaggeration. France has significant climate variation; therefore, the same phenomenon can have completely different practical impacts on the Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean, the Alps or inland areas.
