Kavinsky Found Dead in Paris Apartment at Age 50

Paris – 29 July 2026: French musician and DJ Kavinsky has died. The artist, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was found unresponsive in his Paris apartment on the evening of Tuesday, 28 July. He was 50 years old. The public prosecutor’s office confirmed the death on Wednesday and opened an investigation to determine the cause of death.

According to judicial authorities, emergency services found no indications of suspicious circumstances at the scene. However, this initial finding does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the medical cause. The public prosecutor’s office initially provided no further details about the circumstances of the death, possible findings or the events leading up to the discovery.

Kavinsky became internationally known through the track “Nightcall,” released in 2010. A year later, the song shaped the opening scene of the film “Drive,” in which Ryan Gosling drives through Los Angeles at night. The combination of subdued vocals, heavy synthesizers and melancholic coolness became Kavinsky’s trademark. The film’s success brought the musician an audience far beyond the French electronic music scene.

Belorgey belonged to the generation of French producers whose music gained worldwide reach from the 1990s and 2000s under the term French Touch. According to his label, he taught himself to play the piano. He initially released several EPs and also performed in the orbit of Daft Punk in the late 2000s. His debut album, “OutRun,” was released in 2013. The Kavinsky persona he developed moved between electronic music, video game aesthetics and the visual world of American action films.

After a longer break between releases, his second album, “Reborn,” followed in 2022. One of Kavinsky’s final major performances came on 11 August 2024 at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games at the Stade de France. There, he performed “Nightcall” together with Belgian singer Angèle and French band Phoenix. The performance once again introduced the track to a global audience of millions.

French President Emmanuel Macron also commented publicly on the musician’s death. Numerous tributes came from the French music scene. Many reactions focused on an artist who had created a distinctive sound with comparatively few releases. It is not yet known when the public prosecutor’s investigation will be concluded; so far, only the discovery in his apartment and the absence of initial indications of suspicious circumstances have been officially confirmed.
