Paris - 30 July 2026: French MP Thomas Ménagé of the Rassemblement National (RN) has proposed reducing his country's contribution to the European Union budget and investing the funds freed up in fire protection. Speaking to franceinfo, he cited additional Canadair firefighting aircraft and fire engines as possible purchases. In doing so, Ménagé links the acute risk of wildfires with his party's long-standing criticism of the EU and public spending.To justify the proposal, the MP referred to an increase of around six billion euros in France's contribution.
