Alexandre Bernard, president of the Union des Métiers et des Industries de l’Hôtellerie (UMIH) in Île-de-France, expressed his concerns in an interview with ICI Paris Île-de-France. He explained that several dozen restaurants on the famous street will be affected by the restrictions and consequently might not open. “Regardless of whether Paris wins or loses, the economic damage will be the same,” Bernard stated. The closures particularly impact the evening business, which is crucial for many enterprises.

The Paris city administration has adopted extensive security measures to prevent crowds and incidents. According to a report by Europe1, about 22,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed throughout France, of which 8,000 will be in Paris and its metropolitan area alone. Bernard emphasized that while recognizing the necessity of these measures, from the restaurateurs’ perspective, a balance should be found so as not to penalize local businesses.
