Champions League Final: Champs-Élysées Street Food Vendors Fear Decline in Sales Despite Security Measures

Alexandre Bernard, president of the UMIH (Union des Métiers et des Industries de l’Hôtellerie) in the Île-de-France region, expressed his concerns in an interview with ICI Paris Île-de-France. He stated that several dozen restaurants on the famous, glamorous avenue will be unable to operate due to restrictions. Bernard said, “Whether Paris wins or loses, the economic damage will be the same.” The impact is particularly significant as many businesses’ crucial evening trade will be disrupted.

The Paris city administration has implemented extensive security measures to prevent large crowds and incidents. According to a report by Europe1, around 22,000 police officers and gendarmes from across France will be deployed, with 8,000 focused on Paris and surrounding areas. This includes closures of some metro stations and traffic restrictions in the central areas.

These security measures have made access to restaurants on the Champs-Élysées difficult. Street closures and police presence may deter or block customers from visiting. Bernard emphasized that while these measures are necessary, it is important to balance them so as not to harm local businesses.

The city administration stresses that the safety of citizens and all stakeholders is the top priority, while also considering economic interests. Nevertheless, the actual impact on the restaurant industry remains uncertain and a final assessment will only be possible after the event.
