Tour de France: SNCF operates special TGV trains to transport teams from the Alps to Paris

Paris – May 29, 2026: The French national railway company SNCF is offering a special TGV exclusively for the transport of teams and riders from the Alps to the Paris region for the first time in Tour de France history. This service has been arranged to ensure smooth, fast, and comfortable transfers during the international cycling event. The decision was made after consultations with the organizers of the race, known as the ‘Grand Tour.’

The 2026 Tour de France includes several physically demanding and challenging stages in the Alps. After these mountain stages, riders, coaches, and support staff need to move to the metropolitan area to efficiently complete additional stages and optimally use rest days. The newly operated special TGV will provide fast connections that reduce the burden of transfers.

SNCF emphasized that this special train offers customized space for the teams, with ample room for bicycles and equipment and sufficient relaxation areas before the next race. This service is expected to significantly improve logistics and contribute to the riders’ overall performance enhancement. Moreover, this organizational measure could serve as a best practice in cycling as a fresh approach.

Previously, team transfers relied mainly on regular trains or cars, resulting in considerable time loss and decreased convenience. The newly introduced solution was developed to prevent delays in recovery and preparation within the tight Tour de France schedule. SNCF is working closely with the race organizer ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation).

Additionally, this new service is expected to offer logistical advantages to media representatives and companions and does not interfere with regular rail operations. The operation of these special trains is part of the efforts to maintain the Tour de France’s international reputation and provide the best environment for the teams.
