Dijon – May 30, 2026: A major incident occurred in train operations between Yonne and Côte-d’Or in Burgundy from the night of May 29 to the early morning of the 30th, 2026. Two Trenitalia-TGV trains stopped due to technical defects, resulting in a suspension of service for over 12 hours. The trains involved were FR6658 and FR9296 heading to Paris, carrying a total of 841 passengers.
The problem occurred around 11:45 PM, just before midnight. Train crews reported technical system failures, and both trains had to stop while en route between Yonne and Côte-d’Or. The route is located in open countryside, making rescue and passenger support operations particularly difficult.
The prefectures of the two departments coordinated the rapid deployment of local rescue teams. Water and basic living support were provided to passengers, and informational guidance was made available. Multiple emergency response teams were deployed on site focused on stabilizing the situation and ensuring safety.
TGV FR6658 was originally operating from Lyon to Paris, and FR9296 was on the Milan to Paris line via Modane and Chambéry. Both trains serve as fast long-distance connections, so a speedy resolution of the issue was particularly important.
Around 9:30 AM on Saturday, the cause of the technical problem was resolved. After extensive safety inspections, both trains resumed operation. Trenitalia has not yet released a detailed explanation of the exact cause but announced plans to strengthen inspections and maintenance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The over 12-hour stoppage caused severe delays in regional and intercity train services. It especially affected connecting lines in the southeast of France, disrupting linking trains and transfers. Passengers were advised to check the latest travel information with Trenitalia and at stations.
This incident once again highlighted the importance of highly reliable infrastructure for high-speed rail services like the TGV. Cooperation among operators, rescue teams, and authorities was evaluated on all fronts. Trenitalia apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to safety and customer service.
The responsible authorities will continue investigating the incident to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop preventive measures. The efforts of passengers who had to wait for about nine hours under difficult conditions and the actively responding support personnel will be remembered.
