PSG Victory Joy: Paris Prepares Massive Celebration – Jubilation Darkened by Hundreds of Arrests

Paris expects tens of thousands of fans to gather this Sunday for the official celebration of Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League victory. Between 85,000 and 90,000 people are expected to crowd the Champ de Mars square at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, with entry opening from 2 PM. PSG players will showcase the European champion trophy on a special stage approximately 450 meters long.

The celebration event took place after a night of great joy but also considerable tension. Numerous riots occurred in Paris and other French cities following the final victory. The Champs-Élysées and the area around Parc des Princes were particularly affected.

According to authorities, 780 people were arrested nationwide, with about 480 of them in the Paris area. Additionally, 57 security personnel were injured. The incidents included property damage, arson, looting, as well as the use of fireworks against the police.

The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that a total of 277 people, including 82 minors, were detained by the police, facing charges of violent acts, theft, and property damage.

The contrast between sporting excitement and nighttime riots is striking. While PSG celebrated the greatest success in the club’s history, the joy of many fans was overshadowed by violence from some small groups.

Despite the incidents, the authorities plan to continue with the official celebration event. Extensive security measures have been implemented for the event in Paris, with approximately 22,000 police officers and gendarmes deployed nationwide. Significant restrictions on traffic and public transportation operations are expected around the Champ de Mars square.

In addition to the fan celebration, a welcome ceremony for the team is scheduled at the Élysée Palace. The French capital hopes to commemorate the club’s sporting achievements in an orderly and festive atmosphere.
