After parcel bomb explosion in Monaco: Investigators identify suspect – trail leads toward Italy

Monaco – 03.07.2026: Four days after the explosion of a prepared package in front of a residential building in Monaco, investigators have identified a suspect. According to consistent information from investigative circles, the suspect is a woman who was seen immediately after the incident and whose movements could partially be reconstructed using video recordings and phone data. The trail leads toward Italy; authorities there have been informed through international police cooperation. No arrest had been made as of Thursday evening.

Three people were injured in the attack on June 29: a man described in reports as a Ukrainian businessman, his companion and an adolescent. All three were treated by rescue services and taken to hospitals. The principality’s public prosecutor’s office has opened proceedings on suspicion of attempted murder. Forensics specialists examined the remains of the package and fragments at the scene to determine the trigger mechanism and the explosives used.

According to French media reports, the Monegasque police and the French judiciary are working closely together. Investigators from the Police judiciaire are assisting with the analysis of video material from the area around the building and along the suspected escape route. Border posts have been alerted in parallel. Italian authorities are in contact under existing agreements with Monaco and France to perform data checks on suspects, vehicles and possible accomplices. The responsible public prosecutor’s offices spoke cautiously in public and referred to the ongoing proceedings.

The authorities gave no detailed information about the identity of the suspect. According to current knowledge, the package was placed at the front door and apparently opened in such a way that it detonated when someone tried to pick it up or open it. Whether the businessman was specifically targeted and what motive might underlie the attack are subjects of the investigation. Security circles are examining both personal and business backgrounds and do not rule out a professional modus operandi given the construction of the explosive device.

For residents of the affected street, the police set up a contact point. Tips from the public, particularly about suspicious observations on the evening of June 29 and about a woman traveling alone who left the scene shortly after the explosion, should be reported to the Monegasque police or via the usual emergency numbers. Authorities emphasized that, on the current assessment, this appears to be a targeted crime without an immediate threat to the general public, but they also urged increased vigilance when dealing with unexpected deliveries at the door.
