Help for the “long-distance commuters” in France: registration possible from May 27

Paris – 27.05.2026: In response to rising fuel prices, the French government has introduced a one-off payment of €100 for so-called “long commuters.” This measure aims to ease the financial burden on workers who travel long distances daily to get to work. From 27 May 2026 eligible people can apply for the support via the online portal impots.gouv.fr.

“Long commuters” are workers who travel at least 15 kilometres daily or more than 8,000 kilometres annually for professional reasons with their private vehicle. In addition, they must have a maximum taxable income per person of €16,880 in 2024. These criteria concern around three million French workers.

The one-off payment of €100 corresponds to a relief of €0.20 per litre, based on average fuel consumption over six months. To obtain the support, applicants must complete an online form on impots.gouv.fr providing personal data and vehicle information. After a positive verification, the payment will be credited to the specified bank account within about ten days.

It is important to note that the support is granted only once per vehicle. In addition, the tax authority reserves the right to check applicants’ declarations within five years and to take appropriate measures in case of irregularities.

This initiative is part of a broader package of government measures aimed at mitigating the effects of rising energy prices on the population. In addition to help for “long commuters,” support has also been announced for other professional categories such as farmers, fishermen and construction sector companies.
