Arson Attack on Carla Moreau’s Car: Investigation into Attempted Extortion

Marseille – 27 July 2026: Following the burning of a car belonging to influencer Carla Moreau, the Marseille public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation. Among other things, it is examining suspicions of attempted extortion by an organized group. The vehicle of the 29-year-old, known from French reality television, was set on fire overnight from 22 to 23 July in Marseille.

A letter was reportedly left at Moreau’s home demanding 60,000 euros. According to police sources, the letter bore the name “DZ Mafia“. Investigators must determine who wrote it and whether there is a direct connection between the demand for money and the arson attack. The reconstruction of events will also include the question of whether the demand was delivered before the incident or only became known in its aftermath.

The public prosecutor’s office is also pursuing the case over the organized destruction of another person’s property using a dangerous means, as well as the formation of a criminal association to prepare a felony. These preliminary legal classifications describe the seriousness of the allegations under investigation. However, they do not allow any conclusion as to who was responsible for the fire or the letter.

The investigation has been assigned to the brigade for combating gang crime. Its officers are expected to assess traces at the crime scene and on the burnt-out vehicle, reconstruct the course of the arson attack, and examine the origin of the letter. They are also likely to investigate whether surveillance footage, communications data, or witness statements provide any leads. Authorities did not say on Monday whether suspects had already been identified or whether anyone had been arrested.

The name “DZ Mafia” is associated in Marseille and beyond with organized drug trafficking and violent crime. That is precisely why any alleged connection must be carefully examined. A name on a letter proves neither its authorship nor the group’s involvement; it could equally serve intimidation or a false attribution.

Moreau made a brief statement on Instagram on Sunday, where she has around three million followers. She said she was safe and surrounded by people who supported her. For the time being, she did not wish to comment further on the events of recent days. “Life goes on,” she wrote.

The investigation is now focused on whether the fire was deliberately used as a means of pressure, to whom the demanded 60,000 euros were meant to be paid, and who stood to benefit from the intimidation. So far, authorities have provided no information on suspects or arrests.
