Bardella reiterates full support for Marine Le Pen - eyes on appeal decision Tuesday

Liévin – 04.07.2026: Jordan Bardella on Saturday renewed his ‘full backing’ for Marine Le Pen at a Rassemblement National (RN) rally in Liévin and said he hopes to see her elected in the 2027 presidential election. The appearance staged internal party unity at a moment when the judiciary is helping to decide the political future of the three-time presidential candidate.

At the center is the appeal hearing before the Cour d’appel de Paris, whose decision is expected on 07.07.2026. It concerns the prison sentence and a multi-year disqualification from office imposed on Le Pen in the first instance. If this disqualification is confirmed, the RN would have to quickly decide who will take on the role of lead candidate for 2027. Bardella had said in earlier statements that he would be prepared to step in if Le Pen were legally prevented from running.

For the party the question is strategically delicate: officially Le Pen still counts as the natural contender, while the leadership keeps the option of switching candidates open. Bardella’s wording reflects this double strategy – a show of loyalty inwardly, signals of the ability to act outwardly. Party allies point to discipline and a well-practiced campaign structure that could be adapted if necessary. Critics, however, warn of friction losses in funding streams, in addressing undecided voters, and in building a presidential team under changed circumstances.

The legal dimension remains decisive. The first-instance judgment from March 2025 created an exceptional situation with the possibility of a disqualification that is rare in France’s party landscape. Confirmation by the appeals court would tighten the RN’s timetable. Within weeks the party would have to readjust personnel decisions, program priorities and regional anchoring for the presidential campaign. If the ruling were overturned in Le Pen’s favor, the RN could continue with its existing planning and focus on mobilization, parliamentary alliances and expanding toward the political center.

Politically, the issue is therefore less whether the RN presents a united front than how resilient its electoral machinery is to legal uncertainties. Observers point to Le Pen’s strong media presence and Bardella’s high name recognition as an organizational advantage. It remains open whether the party can keep a consistent substantive narrative in the event of a late change at the top. On Tuesday it will be decided whether the RN sticks to the Le Pen course or enters a phase of accelerated reorganization.
