BHV Marais Ends Partnership with Shein and Changes Operator

Paris – 16.06.2026: The well-known Parisian department store BHV Marais has decided to terminate its partnership with the controversial fast-fashion brand Shein. Furthermore, the operation of the department store will be handed over by Société des Grands Magasins (SGM), which has managed the business since 2023 under the leadership of Frédéric Merlin, back to the previous management. This decision came after a series of economic difficulties and critical reactions related to the cooperation with Shein.

In November 2025, Shein opened its first physical sales space at BHV Marais, which was met with skepticism from both the Parisian public and partner companies. Critics questioned whether a brand like Shein, known for fast fashion trends often associated with environmental issues and questionable working conditions, was a suitable fit for a traditional department store in a cultural city like Paris.

According to various media reports, Shein’s presence led to a decline in customer traffic at BHV Marais. In addition, some established brands withdrew from the department store, and the Caisse des Dépôts, a significant partner, also ended its collaboration with the company.
