Four people killed in Russian attacks in Ukraine ahead of meeting in Paris

Kyiv – 12 July 2026: At least four people were killed in Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight. Ukrainian officials reported this on Sunday. Three victims were recorded in the central Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk, while another person was killed in the southern city of Kherson. The information relates to the overnight wave of attacks and may change as rescue operations continue.

In Kryvyi Rih, a major city in the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people were killed in an attack on an industrial facility, according to regional officials. Initially, there were no further details about the third victim in the region. Local authorities are assessing the damage and supporting those affected. Initial reports did not provide complete information about any other possible injuries.

In Kherson, according to Mayor Jaroslav Schanko, a 48-year-old man was killed in a drone attack. The city lies near the front line on the Dnipro River and has repeatedly been targeted by Russian attacks since its liberation in November 2022. Ukrainian officials urged residents to take air raid warnings seriously and seek shelter.

The Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia once again used missiles and drones overnight against targets in several regions across the country. Information about the scale of the attack and the number of aerial objects intercepted is initially being reviewed by the relevant military authorities. Russia initially made no direct comment on the reported deaths. As of Sunday, independently verifiable information about all targets attacked remained incomplete.

The attack took place one day before the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris. Representatives of more than 30 countries are expected to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, further military and political support, and paths toward lasting peace on 13 July. According to the German government, Chancellor Friedrich Merz will also attend the meeting.

According to previous announcements, strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities will also be a focus of the discussion. Intercepting Russian ballistic missiles is particularly important for Kyiv, as these weapons are difficult to intercept and have repeatedly struck cities and civilian infrastructure. This week, the United States authorized Ukraine to manufacture US-designed Patriot air defense systems within the country. However, it may still take several months before production can begin.

France and the United Kingdom are among the most important initiators of the Coalition of the Willing. The group wants to help provide credible security commitments for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. However, the new attacks once again show that the situation continues to escalate ahead of the talks in Paris. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has now lasted more than four years.
