Caracal Helicopter Surveys the Gironde Wildfire at Night

Merignac - 30 July 2026: During the large-scale wildfire in Gironde, a Caracal helicopter of the French Air and Space Force is conducting nighttime reconnaissance. On board, a fire service observer monitors the spread and intensity of the blaze as well as particularly vulnerable areas. Their assessments are transmitted directly to incident command and personnel on the ground.These flights are especially important during the hours when firefighting aircraft cannot carry out water drops.
