Cazeneuve and Hollande Plan Appearance in Paris

Paris – 17/07/2026: Former French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve will appear alongside former President Francois Hollande at a colloquium in Paris on September 4. According to information from Franceinfo, Xavier Bertrand, president of the Hauts-de-France region and a possible candidate for the Elysee Palace, is also expected to attend. Edouard Philippe or a representative from his circle is also expected to take part.

The announcement carries particular weight because Cazeneuve officially reaffirmed his presidential candidacy for 2027 on July 16. The former interior minister and head of government under Hollande rejects a Socialist primary. Through his party La Convention, he aims to build an independent platform within the reform-oriented left and social democratic spectrum.

The meeting with Hollande thus demonstrates both the closeness and the open competition between two former leading figures of the governing left. Hollande, president from 2012 to 2017, is also preparing a possible return to the presidential race, according to reports from his circle. He gathered confidants in Paris on July 16 and warned against merely symbolic candidacies.

Cazeneuve served as prime minister in Hollande’s government from December 2016 to May 2017. After the Parti socialiste allied with La France insoumise in the 2022 parliamentary election, he left the Socialists and later founded La Convention. In policy terms, he advocates a republican social democratic line that distinguishes itself both from Jean-Luc Melenchon’s left-wing movement and from the president’s centrist camp.

The lineup of the event announced for September points to the increasing fragmentation of the political center. Edouard Philippe, Emmanuel Macron’s former prime minister, is among the leading candidates in the center-right camp. Xavier Bertrand, who already ran for the conservative presidential nomination in 2021, also remains a prominent figure on the moderate right.

Whether Philippe himself will attend has not yet been definitively confirmed. His party Horizons is pursuing its own strategy for 2027, while several figures in the political center are pushing for a later consolidation of candidacies. The event on September 4 should therefore be understood less as an attempt at an immediate alliance than as a forum where the boundaries and possible overlaps between the social democratic left, the center and the moderate right will become visible.

For Cazeneuve, the appearance above all offers an opportunity to connect his candidacy with a network extending beyond his own party structure. For Hollande, in turn, the date will be a test of how far his influence within the reformist camp still reaches. No common political line among the participants has been announced so far.
