Diane Parry Reaches Roland-Garros Round of 16 for the First Time

Paris – 30.05.2026: On the Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland-Garros, Diane Parry faced a major challenge. The 23-year-old French player, currently ranked 92nd in the world, met sixth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova in the third round. After an exciting and nerve-wracking exchange, Parry prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (10-3) to reach the round of 16 at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

The start of the match was marked by cautious play and some nerves on both sides. Parry, born in Nice and raised near the Paris Parc des Princes, quickly showed her class. With precise baseline shots and an impressive backhand, she put her opponent under early pressure. Despite losing the second set, she remained calm and kept control of the match to decisively win the third-set tiebreak. This was a testament to her mental strength and maturity on court.

After the match, Parry expressed her joy: “I am overjoyed to have won this match in such an atmosphere in front of the home crowd. The support from the fans was incredible.” The spectators responded with loud chants like “Ici, c’est Parry” and “Parry est magique.” The enthusiastic crowd evoked the excitement that would unfold later that evening in the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

The victory over Anisimova, who reached the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, marks a significant milestone in Parry’s career. It was only her second win against a top-10 player, following her triumph over then world number one Barbora Krejcikova in 2022.

In the upcoming round of 16, Parry will face Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska, currently ranked 114th in the world. Parry, who has lived in Dubai for two years and has been working intensively to develop her game, is confident in continuing her winning streak: “I am very excited for the next match. I have worked hard for this moment and will give it my all.”

Parry’s rise brings renewed hope to French tennis. She is currently the last remaining Frenchwoman in the women’s singles at this edition of Roland-Garros. Reaching the quarterfinals would be an extraordinary success for the young player and another important step in her career.

The match between Parry and Chwalinska promises excitement and high-quality tennis once again. The audience in Paris can look forward to another tennis showdown that reflects the spirit and passion of Grand Slam tennis.
