Dinan – 18.06.2026: On June 24, 2026, the “Course des Garçons de Café” returns to the Breton town of Dinan, a traditional street race with a history spanning over a century. The event challenges participants to run as quickly and safely as possible through the narrow, cobblestone streets of the old town while carrying a fully loaded tray.
The start takes place at 4 pm at the Porte du Jerzual, one of Dinan’s historic city gates. From there, the course leads through Rue de la Cordonnerie, where the finish line is located. During the race, participants must balance a tray carrying several drinks: a glass with 50 cl, another with 25 cl, and a 33 cl bottle of mineral water. Three laps of 800 meters each must be completed, demanding not only physical fitness but also skill in handling the tray.
The event is open to all age groups and genders. Prizes are awarded to the winners in the men’s and women’s categories, as well as for the best individual and best team costume. Costumes are a popular part of the spectacle, contributing to the festive atmosphere and showcasing the creativity of the participants.
Registrations are possible from 3 pm at the square on Rue de la Cordonnerie. Anyone needing further information or having questions about the event can inquire by phone at 06 80 01 43 12. Traditionally, the “Course des Garçons de Café” attracts numerous visitors from the region and beyond. It is considered a fixed feature in Dinan’s event calendar and symbolizes the vibrant connection of history, culture, and community in the town.
In recent years, the number of participants has steadily increased. For example, the 2024 edition recorded 70 participants who took on the challenge. With its return in 2026, the organizers hope for even stronger participation and an event as joyful and exciting as in previous years.
The “Course des Garçons de Café” offers residents and visitors of Dinan an opportunity to experience the town in an unusual and entertaining way. The street race not only promotes team spirit but also charmingly combines tradition and modern festive culture.
Those wishing to participate in the race should register early as places are limited and demand is high. The organizers look forward to many sporty, creative, and committed participants who will keep the spirit of the event alive and have lots of fun.
