Dijon – 30.05.2026: Between Yonne and Côte-d’Or in Burgundy, a serious incident occurred in railway traffic during the night of May 29 to May 30, 2026. Two Trenitalia-TGV trains were stopped due to a technical failure and were blocked for more than twelve hours. The affected trains were FR6658 and FR9296, which were heading to Paris. In total, 841 passengers were on board both connections.
The failure occurred shortly before midnight, around 11:45 p.m. The train crews reported the failure of technical systems, after which both trains had to stop completely between the departments of Yonne and Côte-d’Or while in transit. Due to the location on an open track, rescue and care measures were especially complicated.
The prefectures responsible for both departments quickly coordinated the interventions of local emergency services. Travelers were provided with water and basic care, while information channels were established for passengers. Several emergency teams were present to stabilize the situation and ensure safety.
The TGV FR6658 originally traveled from Lyon to Paris, while the TGV FR9296 covered the route from Milan passing through Modane and Chambéry to Paris. Both trains were part of long-distance high-speed connections, making the prompt resolution of the failure particularly urgent.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, the technical cause was resolved. The two trains continued their route after a thorough safety inspection. Trenitalia has not yet provided precise details about the exact cause but announced that it will strengthen maintenance tasks to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The twelve-hour blockage caused significant delays in regional and national rail traffic. In particular, connections in the southeast of France were affected, also impacting feeder and transfer trains. Travelers were advised to consult Trenitalia and stations for updated schedule information.
This incident highlights the importance of reliable infrastructure, especially in high-speed services like the TGV lines. The cooperation between operators, rescue teams, and authorities was positively valued by all sectors. Trenitalia apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to safety and customer care.
The incident is being investigated by the competent authorities to identify possible vulnerabilities and apply corresponding preventive measures. For affected passengers, the nine hours of waiting under difficult conditions will surely remain memorable, as will the quick intervention of the aid teams.
