Duralex: Carlesimo announces new takeover bid for glassworks in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin

La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin – 11 July 2026: Industrial group Carlesimo announced on Friday that it will submit a new, revised takeover bid for the Duralex glassworks in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin (Loiret) in the coming weeks. Speaking to regional media, the company’s president pointed to the need for an industrial owner with a clear strategy, a long-term outlook and restructuring experience in order to stabilize the site. No specific financial details were provided, but Carlesimo is envisaging investments and a reorganization of production.

The Duralex plant has been under court supervision since 1 June 2026. The Commercial Court of Orleans opened restructuring proceedings and launched a plan de cession to seek buyers. According to the relevant authorities, the deadline for binding bids is 6 August 2026. By then, interested parties must submit viable business plans, financing commitments and investment programs; the court will then review the dossiers and make a decision.

According to press reports, the site employs around 243 people. Parts of the workforce supported a SCOP solution in 2024 in order to safeguard the future of the brand and local production. In recent weeks, manufacturing has been scaled back at times to limit liquidity shortfalls and control costs. Orleans Metropole and local stakeholders are calling for robust guarantees to preserve jobs and modernize key facilities, including furnaces and energy infrastructure.

Carlesimo stresses that the choice of buyer should not be based on the purchase price alone, but above all on the viability of the business model, the security of sales channels and measurable investment commitments. The company points to its experience in industrial consolidation and says that, if its bid is accepted, it will combine short-term measures to stabilize production with a medium-term investment plan. Options for energy efficiency and better utilization of the iconic Duralex product ranges in France and abroad are also being discussed.

According to consistent reports, the Ministry of Industry, the appointed insolvency administrator and the responsible judge are demanding precise financial plans, liquidity bridges and verifiable milestones. In addition to possible state support, regional funding and partnerships with local institutions are under consideration. For the workforce, the situation remains tense until the Commercial Court makes its decision. Employee representatives are calling for transparent criteria and timely information about the next steps. The bid deadline of 6 August 2026 is considered a key date that will determine whether Duralex gains a viable future with an industrial partner.
