Édouard Philippe campaigns in Paris for the broad center - RN focuses on appeal verdict against Marine Le Pen

Paris – 05.07.2026: Édouard Philippe will take the stage this Sunday at the Adidas Arena in Paris for his largest campaign appearance of the season. With the meeting, the chairman of the party Horizons aims to cement his role as a defining figure in the centrist-right camp. Around 5,000 participants were expected from his circle — a test of his movement’s ability to mobilize and of its resonance beyond traditional party boundaries.

The former prime minister thus positions himself visibly ahead of the presidential election 2027. Strategically, Philippe aims to sharpen his profile between government experience and law-and-order competence while distinguishing himself from rivals such as Gabriel Attal and Bruno Retailleau. Recent polls placed him ahead in the broad center segment; the Paris appearance is intended to support this trend and appeal to undecided voters.

The timing gives the day additional weight. In Paris, an appeal verdict in the proceedings against Marine Le Pen is expected in the coming days. The leader of the Rassemblement National had appealed a judgment from March 31, 2025; the appeal hearing took place in early 2026. Legal assessments emphasize that only a conviction with an explicitly ordered loss of voting or office rights would have immediate effects on a possible presidential candidacy. Whether such an additional ban is even a consideration depends on the precise criminal classification and the ancillary consequences imposed by the court.

Politically, this simultaneity creates a double dynamic: while Philippe is aiming for unity and governing capability, uncertainty remains in the right-wing camp about personnel arrangements should the verdict restrict Le Pen’s scope or — in the opposite case — solidify it. Parties and campaign teams are examining scenarios ranging from adjustments to coalition options to changed target-group strategies. For the center-right camp, it is also crucial whether Philippe can anchor his movement organizationally nationwide beyond the Parisian environment.

In the short term, the staging of a serious, reconciliatory course is at the center in the Adidas Arena: economic stability, public security and a France anchored in Europe. Regardless, the legal chapter surrounding Marine Le Pen remains an uncertainty factor that is likely to influence the pacing of the campaigns in the coming days. Observers expect that both the verdict and the audience response in Paris will send signals for the opening phase of the presidential primary year.
