Elton John’s Photographic Treasures at the Palace of Fontainebleau in Paris: “Fragile Beauty” Exhibition

Paris – June 13, 2026: On June 12, 2026, the highly anticipated exhibition “Fragile Beauty” opened at the famous Château de Fontainebleau in Paris. The exhibition will run until September 27, 2026, showcasing more than 300 photographic works from the impressive collection of Sir Elton John and David Furnish. This collection, comprising over 7,000 items, is considered one of the largest and most important private photography collections in the world.

The exhibition was originally shown from May 2024 to January 2025 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and has been specially created for the Château de Fontainebleau. The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections, exploring core aspects of the human experience: desire, fashion, celebrity, documentary, and identity. Featured photographers include well-known artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus, Irving Penn, Ai Weiwei, and Nan Goldin. Nan Goldin is presented with 149 large-scale photographic installation works from her “Thanksgiving” series.

Sir Elton John began collecting photographic works in 1991, sharing this passion with his husband David Furnish. Their collection covers works from the 20th and 21st centuries, including numerous groundbreaking masterpieces in the history of photography. The “Fragile Beauty” exhibition celebrates more than thirty years of collecting and reflects the personal tastes and unique perspectives of the two collectors.

The photographic works in the exhibition have been carefully selected to explore the relationship between strength and vulnerability in human nature, telling stories of life’s complexity and diversity of human experience. Visitors are invited to embark on a visual journey through the development of modern and contemporary photography, a journey that is both aesthetically appealing and profoundly insightful.
