NBA Finals: The New York Knicks win the second game against Victor Wembanyama's Spurs

San Antonio – 06.06.2026 : The NBA Finals series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs reached an extreme level of tension during Game 2. The Knicks prevailed on the road with a score of 108 to 105, extending their lead in the best-of-seven series to 2-0. French star Victor Wembanyama played a dominant role for the Spurs, scoring 29 points, 22 of them in the second half alone. Despite this impressive performance, luck did not favor him at the end of the game.

Wembanyama showed his full potential at home, controlling the game as a big center on both offense and defense, and had several opportunities to give his team the win. But in the final seconds, the 2.23-meter Frenchman lost the ball decisively, allowing the Knicks to retain possession and hold on until the end of the game. A last shot by Wembanyama, which could have delivered the victory, also brushed the rim without going in.

The Knicks demonstrated great tactical discipline in San Antonio and benefited from solid defense that limited the young New York prodigy. At the same time, they based their offense on a controlled balance, led by the experienced Julius Randle, who scored 26 points. The close result and dramatic final phase reflect the balance and tension of this Finals series.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team’s mental strength, which remained calm despite the Spurs’ home-court advantage and knew how to seize the key moments. “We know Victor is an exceptional player, but we responded as a team and fought for the important balls,” Thibodeau said after the game.

Wembanyama, considered the standard-bearer of French basketball, thus remains at the center of attention from fans and experts. In the next game in New York, the Spurs will have the opportunity to cut the series deficit and revive the Finals fight. So far, the series remains an exciting duel between promising young talents and seasoned players.

The NBA series will continue with Game 3 in New York, where the arena eagerly awaits the Knicks’ first home victory. Suspense and high-level basketball mastery are guaranteed, as is the question of whether Wembanyama can confirm his exceptional status in decisive moments, or whether the Knicks will increase their lead further.

This duel in the world’s strongest basketball league is now considered one of the most attractive Finals in years, notably because of the close scores and the exceptional performances of the French center. The entire basketball world is watching the next games of this captivating series closely.
