Fleurance Commemorates Lyhanna with White March

Fleurance – 06/07/2026: In Fleurance, in the Gers department, approximately 6,000 people gathered on June 7, 2026, for a white march to commemorate eleven-year-old student Lyhanna. The mourning event began at 3 p.m. at Square de Verdun, near Collège Hubert-Reeves, the place where the student was last seen.

Lyhanna disappeared on May 29, 2026, after leaving school. Her body was found on June 4 in an abandoned agricultural silo in Puycasquier, about 15 kilometers south of Fleurance. Her identity was confirmed through DNA analysis.

Lyhanna’s parents initiated the memorial event and attended in person. In an official statement, they thanked the mayor of Fleurance for his support and invited the mayors of surrounding communities to join the event. Further political presence was not desired.

During the march, participants expressed their grief in a deeply emotional atmosphere. The parents led the procession, holding a banner that read “Lyhanna, we love you, we miss you.” The route led from Square de Verdun to Place Marcadet. Police and gendarmerie managed traffic along the way.

Investigations into Lyhanna’s death are ongoing. A 41-year-old man, the father of a friend of the girl, was already arrested on June 1 and has been charged since June 2 at the Pôle Criminel in Agen. He is in custody and has exercised his right to remain silent. The focus of the investigation is on his movements and statements since the afternoon of May 29. Further details about the cause of death have not yet been published.

The community of Fleurance showed solidarity throughout the entire period and supported the family. The white march was the first official act of remembrance and reflected the deep compassion of the residents. Authorities emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the judiciary, police, and social services to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The family expressed gratitude for the broad support and emphasized the importance of collective remembrance during this difficult time. They hope that the truth about Lyhanna’s death will soon come to light and that such incidents can be avoided in the future.

The white march in Fleurance was a moving moment of mourning and unity that brought the community together in their grief. The investigation continues as authorities are determined to fully clarify the case.

The tragedy of Lyhanna shook not only Fleurance but caused nationwide concern. The white march was seen as a symbol of hope and solidarity amid the painful loss.
