Isotonic for the really hot days: Lemon water with Camargue salt

🌞 The Essence of Refreshment

When the southern French sun mercilessly burns from the sky and the sea air lies warm and heavy over the Côte d’Azur, locals swear by a simple but effective home remedy: lemon water with a pinch of salt.

In the Camargue – known for its salt fields and white horses – this drink is traditionally prepared to maintain electrolyte balance during intense heat. It not only quenches thirst but also quickly replenishes sodium and potassium lost through sweating.

⚖️ Why Isotonic?

Lemon provides potassium and vitamin C
Salt (Fleur de Sel or Camargue salt) compensates for sodium losses
Water rehydrates while the acidity of the lemon accelerates fluid absorption in the small intestine

This drink is therefore ideal with your Salade Niçoise in a Glass and rounds off the Provençal summer buffet with pure, traditional elegance.

🍋 Recipe: Eau citronnée au sel de Camargue

Ingredients (for 1 liter)

✅ 1 liter cold still water or lightly chilled mineral water
✅ Juice of 2 organic lemons
✅ 1 small pinch of Camargue salt (or Fleur de Sel), about 1/4 tsp
✅ Optional: lemon slices and fresh mint for decoration

🔪 Preparation

  1. Press the lemon juice and pour into a jug.
  2. Add salt, stir well until completely dissolved.
  3. Fill up with water and stir again.
  4. Optional: Add some lemon slices and fresh mint sprigs to the water.
  5. Serve cool, not ice cold, to avoid stressing the stomach.

Serving tip for your buffet

  • Pour the drink into a beautiful glass carafe and decorate it with floating lemon slices and mint leaves.
  • Place small labeled cards next to it: “Lemon water with Camargue salt – Refreshment like on the Côte d’Azur”.

🥗🍋 Perfect combination

The tart freshness of the lemon and the gentle salty note harmonize perfectly with your Salade Niçoise in a glass, as both recipes stabilize and refresh the body in heat and taste authentically South French.
