This weekend, the first World Championship in Frying took place in Arras in the Pas-de-Calais department. But how can you really tell good French fries?
He is the very first world champion of the best French fries. An emotional crowning on the Grand-Place of Arras for this restaurant owner from Lille, who with his recipe for the potato slices, which are first baked in oil and then in beef fat, took the victory. “This is a nice conclusion for a hard day, it rewards all the work I put every day into the fry stand,” exclaimed Aurèle Mestré, the new world champion of French fries.
Participants from Around the World
Standing all day in front of their fryers, 32 contestants competed against each other in four categories. Each chose their potatoes and oil themselves. One hour to peel, cut, and fry the potatoes. Competitors from Canada, Belgium, and Japan were present to showcase their skills and attempt to claim the victory. A competition but also a culinary spectacle for the visitors, who were subsequently allowed to taste the French fries.
