Treat yourself to a café au lait and let the atmosphere wash over you as you watch the colorful hustle and bustle.
From here, our next destination is just a stone’s throw away: the impressive Église Saint-Pierre.
Église Saint-Pierre: A baroque masterpiece
Just a few steps from the Place de la République rises the Église Saint-Pierre – one of the most important Baroque churches in the region. Its construction began in the 17th century, and the red brick facade gives the church a majestic appearance. Upon entering, you will be treated to a true feast for the eyes: the altar, considered the largest Baroque altar in France, is an intricately carved and gilded work that reflects the splendor and wealth of that time.

After exploring the heights of Fort Libéria, we make our way back to town and treat ourselves to a well-deserved break in the Parc du Cloître de Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. This park, belonging to the Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa monastery, is a green oasis of calm and relaxation. The monastery itself, only a few kilometers from Prades, is an important example of Romanesque architecture and another cultural highlight of the region.
But the park invites you to linger: The shady paths, the old trees, and the gentle trickling of water from the fountains create a peaceful atmosphere – a perfect place to reflect on the impressions of the day.
Culinary Delights: A Stop at the Bistro
What would a visit to Prades be without exploring the local cuisine? Before we end our tour, we settle in at Bistro le 7, a cozy restaurant near the Place de la République. Here, regional specialties are served, prepared with great care and fresh ingredients. Try the “Boles de Picolat,” a type of Catalan meatballs, or treat yourself to a “Cargolade” – Catalan-style snails that offer a true taste experience.
