Hollande announces his participation in the commemorative ceremonies for the 10th anniversary of the Nice attack

Paris – 10 July 2026: Ten years after the attack on the Promenade des Anglais, François Hollande reaffirmed that he will take part in the July 14 commemorative ceremonies. The former President of the Republic announced that, as in 2016, he will stand alongside the relatives of the 86 victims. Official events dedicated to the victims, their families and the many injured people have been arranged in Nice and Paris.

The city of Nice is coordinating a comprehensive program together with the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture and victims’ associations. A minute of silence, silent wreath-laying ceremonies and exhibitions commemorating those affected and paying tribute to the work of rescuers and emergency services are planned. The organizers emphasize that the focus is on dignity and calm; procedures will therefore be closely coordinated with security services, psychosocial emergency response teams and municipal contact points for family members.

Paris is also organizing the national holiday with the commemoration in mind. The city administration has announced special measures to make room for remembrance of the victims of July 14, 2016. According to the Hôtel de Ville, the traditional format of the celebrations will be adapted so that the official tributes to the victims are more visible and relatives have an appropriate space for quiet participation.

The Ministry of the Interior draws attention to the continuing emotional impact on the population and the responsibility of state authorities to ensure safe and respectful conditions. This includes coordinated access arrangements, an increased law enforcement presence and clear information channels for visitors. Through their joint preparations, authorities, local administrations and associations also intend to strengthen their cooperation, which since 2016 has become established in assistance, compensation procedures and remembrance work.

The attack on the evening of the 2016 national holiday is considered one of the most serious terrorist crimes in recent French history. Eighty-six people were killed, and hundreds suffered physical and psychological injuries. In the years that followed, legal proceedings, investigation findings and debates on security concepts and state responsibility shaped the public discussion. Victims’ and relatives’ associations continue to call for recognition of the suffering, a thorough review and a context in which the memory of the deceased remains central.

For July 14, 2026, the organization aims for a dignified and securely monitored commemoration that connects private mourning and public participation. The program in Nice and Paris is also intended to send a signal of cohesion and make the long-term support for those affected visible.
