Paris – 27.05.2026: In response to recent increases in fuel prices, the French government has introduced special support for so-called “frequent drivers.” This measure aims to relieve the financial burden of those who travel long distances daily in their private vehicles for work purposes. A recently introduced online calculator allows citizens to check if they are eligible for this support, which led to unexpected results for some.

The support consists of a one-time payment of 50 euros, which corresponds to a relief of 20 cents per liter for an average fuel consumption over three months. To receive this aid, certain criteria must be met. Among them, the applicant must be a tax resident in France and have been at least 16 years old on December 31, 2024. Additionally, the applicant must be employed or self-employed and have a maximum income of 16,880 euros per taxpayer in the year 2024.

A “frequent driver” is defined as someone who travels at least 15 kilometers daily to work or who drives at least 8,000 kilometers annually for professional reasons. The aid is aimed at people who use a private vehicle with a combustion engine or non-rechargeable hybrid and who regularly insure it.

The application is submitted through the personal online portal at impots.gouv.fr. Starting May 27, 2026, eligible individuals can submit their application. After a successful review, the support will be transferred to the indicated bank account within approximately ten days.

Despite the clear criteria, the use of the online calculator caused unexpected results for some users. Some discovered that they were eligible, although they did not expect it, while others were surprised not to qualify. These discrepancies raise questions about the accuracy and ease of use of the system.

However, the government emphasizes that the online calculator is based on the information provided and that final eligibility depends on a detailed review. It is recommended to use the calculator as a first step and, in case of doubts, to contact the competent authorities directly.
