Washington – 12.06.2026: President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced on June 11, 2026, that planned airstrikes against Iran on the same day would be canceled. In a post on the Truth Social platform, he stated that negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran had taken place and been approved at the highest level, leading to the cancellation of the planned attacks.
Trump said that the “final points” had been agreed upon by all parties involved and that the “date, time, and place of signing will be announced soon.” However, he emphasized that the blockade of Iranian ports imposed by the US since mid-April would remain in place until the “deal is completed.”
This announcement contrasts with Trump’s previous threats that he would “hit very hard” against Iran and take control of the country’s critical oil facilities. In an interview with the US channel ABC, he warned of a “very strong, very powerful” response after a US Apache helicopter was destroyed by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
Although Trump announced a “very good deal,” the Iranian government stated that it has not yet made a final decision on signing the proposed peace treaty. A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry in Tehran stressed that negotiations are ongoing and that the country’s leadership is carefully reviewing the conditions before making a decision.
The situation remains tense. The international community is closely monitoring developments in the negotiations between the US and Iran. A peace agreement could be an important step towards de-escalating the already high tensions in the Middle East.
Previously, under Trump’s leadership, the US launched a large-scale airstrike campaign against Iran on June 21, 2025, attacking nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo. This move marked a significant turning point compared to diplomatic efforts in recent years and occurred simultaneously with Israel’s military campaign. Trump called the campaign “very successful” and declared that Iran’s uranium enrichment capability had been “completely destroyed,” while threatening to conduct even stronger attacks.
This escalation created great instability in the region, with the risk of Iranian retaliation and increased geopolitical tensions, especially in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The European Union felt abandoned due to these developments and the breakdown of the joint nuclear agreement (JCPOA). Despite this failure, Iran may try to strengthen its nuclear deterrent capabilities.
While Israel views the military actions positively, the risk of a prolonged conflict remains, which could profoundly change the balance of power in the region and challenge international law. Given this complex situation, all parties involved are closely monitoring the diplomatic process toward a long-term de-escalation.
