Paris – 24.06.2026: Dominique Vérien, president of the delegation on women’s rights in the French Senate, has warned against the growing influence of masculinist ideologies in France. She described this development as a serious threat to public order and national security. Vérien emphasized that these ideologies not only undermine women’s rights but also seriously threaten social cohesion.
The French Senate recently published a report examining the networks and movements of masculinism. This document analyzes the structure and spread of masculinist groups, which are gaining increasing influence in various areas of society. Vérien, accompanied by her colleagues Béatrice Gosselin, Olivia Richard, and Laurence Rossignol, presented the findings on June 24, 2026, during a press conference.
The High Council for Equality (HCE) also examined this issue in detail in its report published in January 2026. The HCE distinguishes two forms of sexism: paternalistic sexism, which hierarchically legitimizes traditional gender roles, and hostile sexism, openly aggressive and demeaning. Both forms are widespread in French society and contribute to the spread of masculinist ideologies.
The General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) recently classified masculinism as a terrorist threat in a podcast. Matthieu, an expert on right-wing extremism at the DGSI, explained the challenges this movement poses to national security.
Vérien stressed the central role of education in the fight against the spread of these ideologies. Better awareness of interpersonal relationships and respectful treatment should be encouraged to strengthen social cohesion. She called for broad societal awareness of the dangers of masculinism, as well as strengthened measures to promote equality and respect.
Moreover, several French authorities and institutions are collaborating on programs aimed at countering this development. This notably includes enhanced educational initiatives, the promotion of equality, as well as monitoring and regulating online platforms to prevent the spread of the concerned ideologies.
The public debate on the impacts of masculinism is clearly gaining momentum in France. Current reports and warnings underline the urgency of addressing this problem seriously and decisively. Dominique Vérien and her colleagues call on public authorities and society to act firmly against this threat in order to protect women’s rights and preserve social stability.
