Maud Bregeon Supports Édouard Philippe for the 2027 Presidential Election

Paris – 29.06.2026: Maud Bregeon, spokesperson for the French government and Minister for Energy, officially declared her support on Monday, June 29, 2026, for Édouard Philippe in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. In an interview with France Inter, Bregeon explained her decision by expressing concern about a possible second round between Rassemblement National (RN) and La France Insoumise (LFI). She warned about the risk that RN could come to power in such a runoff. Therefore, she considers Édouard Philippe as the candidate who “today, more than others, can unite broadly and secure a place in the runoff,” thereby preventing the strengthening of RN.

Bregeon also announced that she would participate on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in a large rally organized by Philippe at the Adidas Arena in Paris. This is regarded as the kickoff event of Philippe’s presidential campaign. She emphasized that despite her support, she will remain politically connected to the government and the Renaissance party and will not take an operational role in the campaign.

Édouard Philippe, former Prime Minister and current chairman of the party Horizons, had already announced his candidacy for the 2027 election. His campaign aims to unite the center-right spectrum in order to win the fight against the rise of the far-right Rassemblement National.

The public endorsement by Maud Bregeon is a politically noteworthy signal, as she had so far shown no clear partisan support for any presidential candidate as a cabinet member. Her move could influence political dynamics within government and party circles and spark debates about the role and neutrality of government members during the crucial election campaign phase.

The presidential election on April 10 and 24, 2027, is approaching. The backing of government members like Bregeon for a candidate could shape voter opinion. Observers see this as an indication that Philippe aims to further strengthen his chances within the political center to successfully carry out the “fight against the extreme right” he has forecast.

In the coming weeks, it will be crucial to see how other government actors position themselves and how effectively Philippe can mobilize voters on election day. Bregeon’s publicly declared support provides him with important backing within the political establishment. At the same time, polarization in the party landscape is expected to increase as RN and LFI rivals compete more intensely for voter support.
