Fleurance – 06/12/2026: Under bright sunshine, several hundred people gathered on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Fleurance cemetery to pay their last respects to 11-year-old Lyhanna. The student had been found dead on June 4 after being reported missing on May 29.
The memorial service began at 2:30 p.m. with a public remembrance ceremony to which the city administration had invited all citizens. This was followed by a burial attended only by close family members, as requested by the family to protect their privacy. Despite the family-only arrangement, numerous residents of Fleurance and neighboring communities participated to show their sympathy.
Mayor Grégory Bobbato opened the ceremony with an emotional speech. He honored the courage and dignity of the parents in the face of this heavy loss and emphasized that Lyhanna’s death was a painful blow not only for the family but also for the entire town and country.
The memorial was musically accompanied by the specially composed song “Lyhanna, you are my shining star” by Magali Castanié. This moving piece of music was received with great emotion by those present and gave the remembrance a special depth.
A symbolic highlight of the ceremony was the collective release of balloons accompanied by the flight of white doves, supported by the mourners. This gesture stood for farewell, remembrance, and the wish for peace and comfort for the bereaved.
The tragic death of the girl has sparked a broad discussion in the region about child safety and society’s responsibility. The procedures in child protection as well as the role of the justice system are being critically examined to prevent future tragedies.
Lyhanna’s death has ignited a wave of solidarity that reaches far beyond the borders of Fleurance. In numerous initiatives, citizens and institutions are advocating for stronger protection of children to turn the memory of Lyhanna into action. The city aims not only to express mourning but also to assume responsibility for the safety of minor female children.
The memorial service on June 12, 2026, thus became an important moment of collective remembrance and a call to society to remain vigilant and better protect children. In the hearts of the people, Lyhanna remains an unforgettable shining star—a symbol of the vulnerability and value of every child.
