Fleurance – June 7, 2026: About 6,000 people gathered in Fleurance, Gers on June 7, 2026, to hold a white march in memory of 11-year-old Rianna and to highlight potential failures in the justice system. The march, which began at 3 p.m., developed not only as a memorial event but also as a protest against perceived flaws in the case handling process.
Rianna disappeared without a trace on May 29. On June 4, her body was found in an abandoned grain silo near Fleurance. Jérôme B., 41, an acquaintance, has been in custody since June 2 and is charged with the abduction and deprivation of liberty of a child under 15.
Before the march, it was revealed that a report of sexual abuse against a girl of the same age had already been filed against Jérôme B. in August 2025. The fact that this report was not immediately processed caused strong criticism from the public and the victim, creating an impression of a lack of firm response from the judicial authorities.
Participants in the march wore white clothes and flowers as symbols of mourning and peace. Rianna’s parents and siblings led the march, accompanied by local politicians, notably MP David Topiak, who described the march as a “quiet form of protest against authorities’ failures.” Rianna’s mother expressed deep emotion, saying: “It is comforting to see so many people standing together today to honor Rianna.”
Several speakers called for improved cooperation between the judiciary, police, and social services to better protect children moving forward. Many participants expressed greater anger over the mishandling and delay of previous reports concerning the main suspect than the mourning itself.
The investigation into Rianna’s death is ongoing, and the autopsy results have not yet been released, which will provide further information about the exact cause of death. Authorities have also launched an investigation to determine possible negligence in processing reports related to Jérôme B.
This case has shocked the entire country and renewed discussions about child protection and judicial efficiency. The “Fleurance White March” symbolizes the call for the nation and society to take the protection of young lives more seriously and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
