NBA Finals: New York Knicks win second game against the Spurs despite Victor Wembanyama

San Antonio – 06.06.2026: The NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs reached a nerve-wracking level in the second game. The Knicks won on the opponent’s court with 108-105 and extended their lead in the Best-of-Seven series to 2-0. The French star Victor Wembanyama played a dominant role for the Spurs, scoring 29 points, with 22 of those points coming in the second half alone. Despite this strong performance, he was unlucky at the end.

Wembanyama impressively showed his full potential for the home team, controlling the game as a great center both offensively and defensively and getting multiple chances for the winning score. But in the final seconds, the 2.23-meter-tall Frenchman crucially lost the ball, allowing the Knicks to maintain possession and finish the game. In addition, a last shot by Wembanyama for a possible win just missed the target.

The Knicks demonstrated great tactical discipline in San Antonio and benefited from strong defense, which limited the young New York superstar. At the same time, they focused on a balanced offense, led by the experienced Julius Randle, who contributed 26 points. The close score and the dramatic final phase reflected the equality and tension of this finals series.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team’s mental strength, which remained calm despite the Spurs’ home advantage and managed to win the decisive moments. “We know that Victor is an exceptional player, but we responded as a team and forced the important balls,” Thibodeau said after the game.

Wembanyama, who is regarded as the hope for French basketball, remains at the center of attention from fans and experts. In the next game in New York, the Spurs have the chance to reduce the series deficit and make the finals even more exciting. So far, the series remains a captivating duel between rising talents and seasoned veterans.

The NBA Finals now continue with game 3 in New York, where the stadium looks forward in anticipation to the Knicks’ first home win. Excitement and high-level basketball are guaranteed, as is the question of whether Wembanyama can confirm his exceptional status in the decisive moments or if the Knicks can extend their lead further.

The confrontation in the strongest basketball league in the world is now seen as one of the most attractive finals in years, not least because of the close scores and the extraordinary performances of the French center. The entire basketball world is watching the next games of this captivating series with great anticipation.
