New Rape Complaint Filed Against Patrick Bruel

Nanterre – 10 July 2026: A further complaint alleging rape has been filed against French singer and actor Patrick Bruel. According to information obtained by the AFP news agency from sources close to the case, the complaint was received by the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office on 24 June. This expands a case in which several women have already made allegations against the 67-year-old.

The new complaint is initially a procedural step, not a judicial finding. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office must assess what investigations to order and whether to link the case to inquiries already under way. No information has been released regarding the specific circumstances, the alleged location of the offence or the identity of the complainant. Protecting those affected carries particular weight at this stage.

On 10 June 2026, Bruel was formally charged in four cases, including with rape, attempted rape, sexual coercion and sexual harassment. The investigating judges subsequently placed him under judicial supervision; they did not grant the public prosecutor’s request for pre-trial detention in that form. In other case files, he has the status of an assisted witness, which falls between that of a simple witness and a formal suspect.

Three additional complaints had already become known in early July. Two concerned allegations of rape, while another involved an allegation of sexual assault against a minor. According to the lawyers representing the women concerned, these complaints were filed on 25 June and 1 July with judicial authorities in Nanterre and with the Paris criminal police, which is responsible for parts of the investigation.

For investigators, each new complaint initially requires separate reviews: statements must be secured, potential witnesses located and timelines compared. The question of a possible statute of limitations may also be relevant depending on the alleged date of the offence. The fact that several cases are publicly known does not replace an individual assessment of the evidence. Guilt or innocence can be decided only by a court once proceedings have concluded.

Patrick Bruel denies the allegations made against him, according to earlier statements by his defence team. As of Friday, his lawyers had not initially released a detailed statement on the newly disclosed complaint. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office therefore faces another decision in proceedings of major significance for those affected, the accused and the public alike.
