A new star shines on the Côte d’Azur – and it bears the name Nice.
For a long time, the charming city was in the shadow of the glamorous neighbors Cannes and Monaco. But what has developed in recent years around the famous Promenade des Anglais is more than just an image makeover. It is a renaissance of luxury, finely crafted from tradition, vision, and a pronounced sense of contemporary elegance.
3,000 new rooms – and a new confidence
Since 2020, around 3,000 additional hotel rooms have been created in Nice. Over 60% of these are in the four- and five-star segment – a clear statement to the international travel market. Especially the Arénas district, not far from the airport, has become a hotspot for upscale accommodations. More than 1,100 new rooms have been opened here alone.
Even more impressive is another figure: luxury hotels now make up 28% of the hotel market in Nice – a huge jump from 23% a decade ago. For comparison: Paris sits at 24%, Lyon at just 11%. The message is clear: Nice is now playing in the major league.
The new crown jewels of the city
Several new additions in the hotel sky are bringing fresh shine – and setting standards in terms of architecture, service, and experience.
Maison Albar – Le Victoria for example: A boutique hotel with 132 stylish rooms, a 600 m² spa, a rooftop restaurant with sea views, and a shopping gallery that combines luxury and lifestyle. From the moment you enter, you feel – this is no ordinary stay, but an invitation to a world of its own.
Equally impressive: the Anantara Plaza Nice. A Belle Époque building, lovingly restored, that today combines modern comfort with the charm of bygone times. The rooftop restaurant “SEEN” offers not only a magnificent view but also an atmosphere that effortlessly shifts between business trip and getaway.
And then there is the Hôtel du Couvent – a converted monastery from the 17th century. With 88 rooms, three restaurants, thermal baths, and an open market, it presents itself as an oasis of tranquility and sustainability. Old walls, new values – a prime example of contemporary luxury with history.
Stronger Together: The Luxury Hotel Collection
Since 2022, eleven five-star hotels in Nice have formed the “Luxury Hotel Collection”. Included are the iconic Hôtel Negresco and the Palais de la Méditerranée. The goal of this alliance is nothing less than establishing Nice as a premium destination on the French Riviera – through shared standards, combined marketing, and a unified quality promise.
Sounds strategic?
It is – and one that works.
The Nice Effect: More Than Just Good Looks
Anyone strolling through Nice’s old town today, stepping through elegant hotel lobbies or sitting on rooftop terraces enjoying an apéro, quickly realizes: This city has reinvented itself. Without losing its soul.
The mix of Mediterranean ease, urban comfort, and cultural depth strikes a chord. Between market stalls and museum visits, between business meetings and rooftop dinners, a new sense of identity is growing: Nice is no longer a stopover. Nice is a destination.
A rhetorical question is allowed: When is luxury really luxury?
Perhaps exactly when it does not impose itself, but invites. When it does not only shine, but touches.
Conclusion? No conclusion – but a outlook
Nice has seized its opportunity. With courage, with sensitivity – and with a touch of French esprit. The city is taking off, not loudly, but elegantly. And it shows that luxury can be more than price and splendor: an attitude, a feeling, an experience.
Those who embrace this will be rewarded – with moments that last.
