Paris – 28.05.2026: The Île-de-France region is currently affected by high ozone pollution, which is exacerbated by the ongoing heatwave. To reduce environmental pollution and increase the use of eco-friendly transport, Île-de-France Mobilités has implemented a temporary measure. From Thursday through Saturday inclusive, a special anti-pollution ticket for public transport is being offered at a price of 5.10 euros per day. The goal is to facilitate the use of buses, trains, and the metro while reducing individual car traffic.

Ozone levels in the air have reached a peak in recent days, creating health risks particularly in the Paris metropolitan area. Experts emphasize that ozone has a stronger effect at high temperatures and can cause respiratory issues and other health problems. Children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory diseases are especially vulnerable.

The transport association hopes that the affordable anti-pollution ticket will motivate many commuters and residents to leave their cars at home and switch more to public transport. This is intended to lower pollutant levels in the region and contribute to environmental protection. The measure applies to all public transport modes in the Greater Paris area.

In parallel, health authorities recommend avoiding physical exertion outdoors on hot days and seeking shade or air-conditioned locations whenever possible. Currently, 17 departments in the region remain under an elevated warning level due to heat and air pollution. A slight improvement is expected on Friday, leading to a gradual lifting of warnings.

Île-de-France Mobilités is working with environmental and health authorities to ensure the protection of the population while promoting environmentally conscious behavior. In the past, the transport association has introduced similar measures during times of increased pollution to improve air quality. The current offer also aims to send a signal for sustainable mobility in the region.

In addition to reducing traffic emissions, using public green spaces and drinking enough water are recommended to mitigate the effects of the heatwave. Authorities urge citizens to pay close attention to warnings and act responsibly. The pollution situation is being closely monitored to implement further protective measures if necessary.

Overall, the introduction of the anti-pollution ticket demonstrates how regional transport and environmental policies can work hand in hand to respond to the challenges posed by climate change and air pollution. Residents of Île-de-France are encouraged to use this opportunity to temporarily shift their mobility habits to more sustainable alternatives.
