Bourg-en-Bresse – June 4, 2026: On June 4, 2026, the 59th Young Farmers (Jeunes Agriculteurs) convention was held in Bourg-en-Bresse, where five politicians presented their visions for the future of French agriculture. Among the attendees were Gabriel Attal (Renaissance), Bruno Retailleau (Les Républicains), Jean-Philippe Tanguy (Rassemblement National), Aurélie Trouvé (La France Insoumise), and Marine Tondelier (Les Écologistes).

The event, held under the theme “Face aux Jeunes Agriculteurs” (Facing the Young Farmers), provided members the opportunity to communicate directly with politicians and ask questions. This open discussion emphasized the importance of agriculture in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

The central topic of the debate was the current crisis of French agriculture due to international competition and insufficient income. The politicians presented different approaches to address this issue. Bruno Retailleau advocated for enhancing the “monopoly” value of agriculture and called for the abolition of the precautionary principle in the Environmental Charter as well as the reintroduction of the pesticide acetamiprid.

Gabriel Attal regarded agriculture as a national interest and stressed the need to strengthen the competitiveness of French farmers. Jean-Philippe Tanguy supported stable and clear regulations to create an “agricultural exception.” Aurélie Trouvé demanded a new productive alliance between farmers and society and guaranteed survival income for farmers.

Marine Tondelier highlighted the importance of the ecological transition in agriculture, emphasizing the need to combine ecological and social goals. She called for sustainable agriculture that meets ecological and social challenges.

Jocelyn Dubost, elected president of the young farmers on the same day, emphasized the importance of concrete measures and urged politicians to take proactive action during their terms. He called for strengthened national control over water authorities and funding of projects through new levies on the food service sector.

The Young Farmers convention held in Bourg-en-Bresse provided a platform for intensive exchange between agriculture and politics, focusing on the sector’s challenges and prospects. The event underscored agriculture’s central role in the upcoming presidential election and highlighted the need to seek specific solutions for the industry’s future.

The attendance of multiple presidential candidates at the Young Farmers convention clearly demonstrates the importance of agriculture in French political discourse.
