PSG Defends Champions League Title, Wembanyama Leads Spurs to NBA Finals, Świątek and Gauff Exit French Open

Paris – 30.05.2026: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won their second consecutive Champions League title on Saturday evening at the Puskás Arena in Budapest. After an exciting final against Arsenal, regular time ended with a score of 1:1. In the penalty shootout, the French club triumphed 4:3 and secured the coveted trophy once again. This success places PSG among the few European champions who have managed to defend their title.

The city of Paris celebrated the team with great enthusiasm, despite the tense security situation following recent riots in which nearly 900 people were arrested nationwide. Thousands of fans gathered at the Champ de Mars to honor the players. Captain Marquinhos, coach Luis Enrique, and top scorer Ousmane Dembélé proudly presented the cup and were already looking ahead to the next season, hoping for a third consecutive victory.

In basketball, Frenchman Victor Wembanyama attracted attention by leading the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. In the decisive seventh game of the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103. Wembanyama scored 22 points and was named the MVP of the series. On average, he delivered impressive stats: 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game.

In the NBA Finals, the Spurs will face the New York Knicks, who are competing for the championship for the first time in 27 years. The first game of the final series will take place on Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

At the French Open in Roland Garros, the dream of a title ended early for the favorites Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff. The Polish athlete, world number one Świątek, lost in three sets (6:4, 3:6, 2:6) to the unseeded Frenchwoman Clara Burel, while American Gauff was defeated 5:7, 3:6 by Russian 15th seed Daria Kasatkina. Both showed strong performances despite their losses and provided plenty of topics for discussion in the tennis world.

In addition to sporting achievements, PSG’s new Champions League triumph also has an economic dimension: thanks to prize money and other revenues, the club gains financial opportunities that surpass the budgets of several French first-division clubs.

Last weekend reflected the diversity of elite sports — dramatic events, historic moments, and a glimpse into the future with new exciting competitions and championships.
